Nursing in Practice Podcast: An update for GPNs on all things pay, terms and conditions
The latest episode of the Nursing in Practice Podcast dives into all things general practice nurse (GPN) pay, terms and conditions – providing an update on the latest state of play and how Nursing in Practice is campaigning for an improved situation for the profession.

It explores our latest General practice nurse pay: A salary survey of the profession 2026 report, which includes findings on pay and incentives, future plans for nurses, negotiating pay rises, pensions, employee benefits, and job satisfaction.
Listeners can also hear about the nurses, MPs and those representing GPs and general practice managers who attended a Nursing in Practice parliamentary event to discuss the issue of GPN pay, terms and conditions – and the need for a united approach to improve the situation.
It marks the sixth episode of the Nursing in Practice Podcast and is available to listen to on Spotify and Apple Music.
Editor Megan Ford and senior reporter Gee Harland open the episode by digging into the results of the survey, drawing on the experiences of nurses as well as the recommendations to government to improve GPN pay and conditions.
The pair talk about the launch of the survey which took place at Nursing in Practice London, a free annual event for nurses which focuses on the realities of nursing today, from expanding advanced practice roles to managing complex patient needs in the community.
The Royal College of Nursing’s (RCN) executive director and general secretary Professor Nicola Ranger gave a keynote address at the event, welcoming the survey as an important publication.
Listeners can hear some of Professor Ranger’s keynote during the podcast episode.
The podcast also goes into more detail about the parliamentary event hosted by Nursing in Practice including who attended and some of the prevalent comments made such as from former nurse and Labour MP for Birmingham Erdington, Paulette Hamilton, who dubbed the report findings as ‘shocking’.
