HIV: pre-exposure prophylaxis

The Hospital Pharmacy Europe Summer issue is now available in print and online.

This issue includes some interesting original research alongside the usual diverse review content. Professor Michael Scott, HPE board member, writes about adoption of a new disinfection protocol that led to significant reductions in the incidence of MRSA at their facility, and Alan-Shaun Wilkinson and colleagues enlighten readers on an original protocol devised to investigate vapour containment performance of cytotoxic drug transfer devices.

Maren Preis and Niklas Sandler discuss how printing technologies offer innovative solutions for personalised medicine and tailored dosage forms to meet the needs of individual patients requiring individual dosing regimens.

In addition, pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in HIV is a subject that has garnered much media attention recently, and in this issue, Nadia Naous gives an overview of how antiretroviral medicines taken by HIV-negative partners can be efficacious in prevent HIV transmission as part of a broader, multi-pronged prevention strategy. Nadia will also be sharing her expertise as part of a ‘Think Tank’ on PrEP at the forthcoming HPE LIVE event on 10 November 2016.
