Maya Dhillon, features assistant at Pulse, has won a prestigious BSME Talent Award for her ‘important’ journalism, shining a light on the negative impact of misleading GP headlines.

BSME Talent Award

Maya has been awarded Unsung Hero at the BSME (British Society of Magazine Editors) Talent Awards 2025.

Judges were impressed with Maya’s work commissioning and editing GP voices, as well as writing her own analyses.

In particular, she has developed Pulse’s Behind the Headlines series, which looks at misreporting of stories involving GPs. Her coverage of an inquest into the death of a 27-year-old woman with ME shone a light on the negative impact of dangerous headlines that blamed her death on her GP.

The in-depth analysis of the case proved that the inquest showed no evidence that the woman’s GPs did anything other than try their utmost best to help her.

The judges said: ‘Maya Dhillon is doing important work as a writer and editor who is still early in her career.

‘The judges were impressed with her ability to go beyond the headlines and tell compelling stories about the world of medicine and healthcare, as well as her wider contribution to the team.’

Maya has also produced and hosted the brand-new Pulse podcast, Pulse in Focus, which keeps GPs up to date with the latest news and clinical updates, as well as expert interviews and investigations.

Pulse editor Sofia Lind said: ‘It’s great to see Maya’s hard work recognised with this prestigious award. In her relatively short time with Pulse, Maya has made a real mark on our publication with her diligent work on views and features, and as producer of our new Pulse in Focus podcast.’

Cogora was nominated for a further five awards at the BSME Talent Awards, which celebrate editorial excellence, best practice and ground-breaking creativity and innovation among grassroots teams across all digital, print and social platforms.
