Strong start for Hospital Pharmacy Europe’s new Virtual Study Day series

Hospital Pharmacy Europe’s very first Virtual Study Day on intravenous (IV) medicines safety has established an impressive benchmark for this new virtual educational series, with more than 100 hospital pharmacists across the UK participating in this virtual event.

The virtual study day, which was hosted last month, was the first of the study days that will allow us to address important clinical and therapeutic topics across the hospital pharmacy setting for hospital pharmacists. In partnership with Hospital Pharmacy Europe, the study day included presentations from leading intravenous (IV) medicines experts covering preparation and administration risks, IV fluid stewardship, administering IV products, NRFit™ and IV therapy.

All sessions were CPD-accredited, with content specifically developed for pharmacists and multidisciplinary team members working with IV medicines in a secondary care environment. This interactive format provided attendees with  valuable practical and evidence-based insights to improve patient care and reduce avoidable harm.

Building on this successful launch, the next Virtual Study Day in the series is scheduled for December, with dates and speaker announcements to follow shortly.

Hospital Pharmacy Europe Virtual Study Day: IV Medicines Safety

We are delighted to announce a new event, the Hospital Pharmacy Europe Virtual Study Day: IV Medicines Safety, scheduled for 25 June 2025.

This is the first instalment of a new virtual study day series focusing on clinical and therapeutic subject areas for hospital pharmacists in the UK. This first event marks an exciting new chapter for Hospital Pharmacy Europe, launching an essential topic on IV medicines safety – the first time this area is being considered in this format.

This free-to-attend, one-day virtual event will provide hospital pharmacists and multidisciplinary clinical teams with valuable information on the latest developments in intravenous (IV) medicines safety from NHS practitioners and experts.

Produced in partnership with Hospital Pharmacy Europe, the agenda has been designed to capture the growing complexity and risks associated with IV therapy and showcase innovation to advance best practice. Each online session will contain valuable, practical and evidence-based updates that contribute to pharmacists’ knowledge and development, as well as improving patient care and contributing to a reduction in avoidable harm.

IV therapy is one of the highest risk aspects of modern medicines management. Errors and complications with IV medicines are responsible for approximately 12,000 deaths in the UK each year. IV medicines safety is an important area of learning for professionals who work in a hospital pharmacy environment.

The agenda features presentations from leading experts on the most relevant and critical topics in IV therapy, including preparation and administration risks, IV-related infections and complications, initiatives in IV safety, and advances such as ready-to-use and ready-to-administer products and the transition to NRFit.

The Hospital Pharmacy Europe Virtual Study Day will be held online and later made available on-demand, providing attendees with flexibility to access the content when their schedule allows. All sessions are CPD-accredited, with content specifically developed for pharmacists and multidisciplinary team members working with IV medicines in a secondary care environment. Tickets are available to book now.

New sustainability and technology zones on Hospital Healthcare Europe and Hospital Pharmacy Europe

Content zones and newsletters focusing on sustainability and health technology have been launched by Hospital Healthcare Europe and Hospital Pharmacy Europe as part of their commitment to support best practice and patient outcomes in secondary care.

With pressure on healthcare systems to reduce their carbon footprint and progress towards net zero targets, sustainable healthcare is becoming an increasingly important consideration for clinicians, hospital pharmacists and their teams in terms of greener prescribing, reusing and recycling medical devices, reducing waste and more.

Via the new sustainability zones, these brands will curate innovative case studies highlighting pioneering initiatives at UK hospitals; overviews of novel research into sustainable practices of the future; and analyses of newly published guidelines, toolkits and reports to encourage secondary healthcare professionals to embrace positive change and support them in achieving individual, organisational and national goals.

Technology’s increasing influence

This healthcare sustainability agenda is intertwined with the evolution and adoption of technology within the healthcare landscape – the impact of which is rising exponentially.

Whether it’s artificial intelligence supporting clinicians’ workloads, electronic patient record and prescribing systems eliminating unnecessary paper use and enhancing connectivity, automation streamlining dispensaries, or smartphone technology aiding patient care in the comfort of their own home, the possibilities for digital transformation in secondary care are endless.

As such, the new health technology zones will showcase examples of how technological advances can offer solutions to the challenges faced in day-to-day practice, allowing clinicians and hospital pharmacists to improve efficiencies, respond to unmet patient need and optimise patient care and outcomes in their own hospitals and beyond.

All content is underpinned by first-hand insights from a dedicated and ever-expanding group of expert clinical contributors who have their finger on the pulse of the latest trends and innovations.

Expanding the reach

What’s more, new sustainability newsletters will join Hospital Healthcare Europe and Hospital Pharmacy Europe’s marketing line-up for 2025.

Delivering all the best content directly into readers’ inboxes, sustainability newsletters will run quarterly throughout the year to keep readers abreast of the latest developments that can support and inspire their practice.

The health technology newsletters, first launched in June 2024, will also continue, with monthly sends for Hospital Healthcare Europe and bi-monthly for Hospital Pharmacy Europe.
