Highlights from the IOTOD Summer Webinar
The IOTOD (Improving Outcomes in the Treatment of Opioid Dependence) summer webinar took place on 3rd September, exploring practical solutions to engage high-risk opioid use disorder (OUD) patients.
The free educational event was hosted by our CME division, PCM Scientific, who worked closely with leading experts to develop the agenda.
The 60-minute session, IOTOD Summer Webinar: Reach. Reconnect. Retain: Solutions for engaging high-risk opioid-use disorder (OUD) patients, was led by Dr Steve Brinksman, GP and Clinical Director of Addiction Professionals, and Medical Director at Cranstoun Birmingham, together with Mr Danny Ahmed, Nurse Prescriber, Clinical Director at Cranstoun, Clinical Partner at Foundations, and Senior Clinician at Addiction Professionals Birmingham.
The programme addressed why patients may be lost to treatment, the importance of psychosocial support for dependent opioid users, the relative advantages of opioid replacement therapies, and how best to match patients to appropriate treatment. Practical approaches to re-engaging refractory-to-treatment patients were also explored.
The webinar proved a great success, attracting over 200 live attendees from across the UK and Europe. Participants included addiction specialists, GPs, hospital pharmacists, nurses, pain specialists, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals seeking to enhance their management of opioid-dependent patients.
The event was promoted through Cogora’s media brands to our community of healthcare professionals across the UK and Europe - including addiction specialists, pain specialists, GPs, primary care nurses, psychiatrists, and community pharmacists.
Feedback from delegates has been overwhelmingly positive:
- 96% rated the quality of the webinar as excellent or good
- 98% reported feeling more confident in their knowledge of why patients disengage from treatment
- 99% reported greater confidence in methods to re-engage patients
The IOTOD Summer Webinar is now available to watch on-demand on the IOTOD website.
