Cogora wins at the MJA Awards

We are thrilled to announce that Cogora’s investigative journalism was recognised at the Medical Journalists’ Association (MJA) Awards; winning the Newcomer award and receiving highly commended in the News Story category.

Emily Warner, Reporter for The Pharmacist, was awarded for Best Newcomer, for her investigation into how much the NHS spends on weight-loss medicines and why some ICBs are imposing their own, stricter access criteria.

Emily spoke with clinical experts, pharmacists, primary care organisations and academics who shed light on the real-world implications of her findings for patients and healthcare clinicians.

The judges said ‘Emily’s article was the standout taking a complicated issue, doing FOI work, gathering data, speaking to sources and building a clear picture of how differently the same treatment is being used across the country. It felt like a proper investigative journalism report not a rewrite of a press release or a report.’

Anna Colivicchi, Deputy News Editor for Pulse, was then highly commended in the very competitive News Story (for a specialist audience) category for her investigation NHS Health Checks: at end stage, into the state of the NHS Health Checks programme.

She uncovered that cash-strapped local authorities around the country are limiting the number of health checks that can be carried out by GP practices, seriously undermining the prevention programme.
