Our General Practice Workforce Report is a major development in Cogora’s editorial and insight. This seminal white paper brings together the knowledge and reach of all our award-winning primary care brands to produce a piece of work that will have huge influence over the future of general practice and the NHS.

Cogora General Practice Workforce White Paper

Using the power of our brands, we surveyed more than 2,300 primary care professionals, conducted interviews with more than 150 and analysed more than 250 pieces of data on every GP practice in England.

Through this reach, we are shining a light on recruitment and unemployment issues within general practice. Our findings reveal the extent of GP unemployment in England, how practices need to hire more staff but don’t have the funding or the space, how some GPs are travelling across the UK – from Bristol to the Shetlands, and from Cumbria to Cornwall – to get work, and how practice nurses fear they are having to train the groups of staff who will replace them. This comprehensive study around general practice workforce – totalling over 50-pages – will influence GP and nursing contract negotiations. It is being launched at a parliamentary event today that will be attended by leaders from general practice, nursing, pharmacy and commissioning, as well as MPs.

Further coverage from the Cogora General Practice Workforce White Paper will be published across our brands, Pulse, Pulse PCN, Nursing in Practice, The Pharmacist, Management in Practice and Healthcare Leader in the coming weeks.

Cogora will be producing more of these heavyweight reports throughout 2025, using our knowledge of primary care data and unparalleled access to professionals within the sector.
