Objectives

Management in Practice launched the first Practice Manager Salary Survey report early 2024, revealing the average annual salary of a full-time GP practice manager, pay scales for practice managers working both part-time and full-time, as well as insights on how practice manager pay is determined.

Our approach

The team began by running an online survey to Management in Practice readers based in England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland in 2023, and had 975 respondents. Only non-partner practice managers based in permanent roles (part-time or full-time) were allowed to participate.

Insights gathered from the survey then formed the basis of the salary survey report, titled ‘Practice Manager Salary Survey 2023/24: gauging the state of the profession’.

The report was sponsored by MCG Healthcare, a specialist healthcare recruitment agency. MCG Healthcare were given exclusive sponsorship of the report. A PDF of the report was then printed and distributed to their clients at their events.

“By sponsoring the Management in Practice Salary Survey, our objective was to empower our clients with vital insights into industry trends and the challenges facing their peers. Providing printed access to this document not only underscores our unwavering dedication to the Primary Care sector but also emphasises our commitment to thoroughly understanding our clients’ needs. This enables us to deliver services that genuinely add value. The response has been resoundingly positive, with over 500 practice managers receiving the printed version—a compelling testament to the survey’s significance and influence within our industry.” ~ MCG Healthcare

The comprehensive pay report offered insight into the average annual salary of a full-time GP practice manager, pay levels in different regions, the level of bonuses and targets set, the range of employee benefits offered, and what experience and responsibilities the highest earners have.

Since launch in January 2024, the salary survey report has been promoted to our community of practice managers via a variety of tactics, including advertising, emails, and social media.

The salary survey is the first of many surveys Management in Practice are planning to get to the heart of what this audience thinks and does.

Outcome

  • 6,600+ page views

The report has so far generated over 6,600 page views, and 43,800 ad impressions for MCG Healthcare as the sponsor, becoming an invaluable resource for practice managers, and insight into the audience.

We found that a lot of practice managers are now PCN managers too, holding significant financial budgets, giving them great influence into how practices spend their money.

This audience is catered to via the Practice Intelligence hub on Management in Practice, which offers more business and HR practical guides specific to working in PCNs, and more high value business intelligence content, as well as through our Management in Practice Events and Pulse PCN Events.
