Cogora has a strong pedigree in medical education – a market where credibility commands a high premium. The company specialises in two categories of medical education – continuing medical education (commonly referred to as ‘CME’) and continuing professional development (CPD).
PCM Scientific is our global CME provider and founding member of the Good CME Practice (gCMEp) Group. PCM Scientific provides high-quality CME-accredited programmes that deliver sustained improvements to clinical practice and patient health.
CME refers to a specific form of continuing education that helps medical professionals maintain competence and learn about new and developing areas of their field. These activities may take place as live events, written publications, online programmes, audio, video, or other electronic media.
To qualify as CME, an education programme must adhere to strict rules. Content is developed, reviewed and delivered by faculty who are experts in their individual clinical areas. And, similar to the process used in academic journals, any potentially conflicting financial relationships for faculty members must be disclosed and resolved in a meaningful way. As a result, medical professionals know that any education that has been badged ‘CME’ will be both robust and high quality.
CME has become increasingly prevalent in the US over the last decade due to concerns about informational bias (both intentional and unintentional). As with most pharmaceutical marketing trends, the EU is following suit and the gCMEp was formed in 2009 to apply US-style standards in Europe.
- 80,000+ online CPD modules each year
- 400+ peer-to-peer education meetings held per annum
- 3,500+ satellite symposium attendees in 2015
- 42 countries in which CME programmes have been delivered
Our team collaborates closely with our healthcare community to generate an in-depth insight into their clinical needs and challenges. When combined with our medical expertise and proven educational interventions PCM Scientific creates enduring educational programmes that benefit both healthcare professionals and patients.
Similar to CME, Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is a system of accrediting educational content. It differs, however, in that there are are no particular standards to which it must adhere. Most healthcare professionals must accumulate a set number of CPD ‘hours’ per annum in order to continue to practice, making it a powerful driver of healthcare professionals’ engagement.
Cogora’s Pulse Learning brand is a CPD subscription service for healthcare professionals. Approximately 3,000 paid subscribers access up to 500 CPD video, audio and written modules across 19 different therapy areas, which are created by clinical specialists under the editorship of Cogora’s in-house content team.
