The Pharmacist was crowned the Best Support for Independent Pharmacists at the Avicenna Media Awards.

Avicenna is an independent pharmacy support group, and its tenth annual Media Awards aimed to highlight the important work that the pharmacy press does to keep the sector abreast of the latest news.

The judges praised The Pharmacist’s ‘empathy’ towards issues that really affect independent pharmacists, giving a special mention to the brand’s #WarOnShortages campaign, which highlights the issues pharmacists are having to battle as a result of disruption to the medicines supply chain.

Judges for the Best Support for Independent Pharmacies category were asked to ‘honour the title that best supports our sector’, prove that it ‘takes our issues seriously…and campaign on our behalf’.

The Pharmacist’s editor-in-chief Beth Kennedy said: ‘We are absolutely delighted to have won this award. As a title that prides itself on standing up for independent pharmacists and all the incredible work that they do, it truly is a real honour to be recognised by the sector in this way.

‘However, there is still much more that The Pharmacist can – and will – do to champion our independent readership, and we look forward to sharing that work over the coming months.’
