Last week, over 650 primary care nurses came together for the 2016 Nursing in Practice London conference, which took place at the Olympia Conference Centre. Here our nurses were able to network and learn in a relaxed environment, and gain the latest insight and clinical updates. For the first time in its history, the London programme was split into four separate streams, each covering a key clinical area. With over 18 sessions to choose from our nurses left with valuable knowledge and also showed off their superhero powers at the selfie stand! Highlights included:
  • A holistic view of peri-natal mental health: Exploring impacts and issues beyond the patients – led by Elaine Hanzak.
  • COPD Management: The right drug, the right device, the right time.
  • A keynote from comedienne Elaine Miller who delivered a light-hearted seminar with some serious take home messages on managing incontinence.
Now in their 13th year, Nursing in Practice events are free to attend and are designed to support nurses in gaining participatory learning hours, building their knowledge, and helping them stay at the cutting edge of the latest treatments and guidance. The event offered in-depth, cutting-edge seminars, interactive demonstrations and an educational programme that focused on key areas that are a priority for practices. There are four more events coming up in 2016: Yorkshire on 22nd September, Bournemouth on 4th October, Birmingham on 8th November, and finally we finish in Cardiff on 29th November. Have a look at what our delegates had to say: “The Nursing in Practice event was interesting and informative. I attended with a friend and we would both be happy to come again.” - Sun Linton, Community Nurse “The seminars were very informative and good to refresh your memory and also to get an update on new procedures.  Exhibitors were very good with some newcomers.”- Dijana Wiles, District Nurse “Excellent opportunity to develop knowledge and understanding of a range of areas appropriate to nurses in practice. Also an opportunity to meet other nurses to share experiences.”- Madeleine Cole, Practice Nurse “This is the first time I have attended this day and was very impressed with the range of topics covered over the course of the day. I also thought the day was well planned and organised.”-  Janine Pembroke, Practice Nurse The Nursing in Practice events are also conscious of bringing together the nursing community with other key stakeholders from the healthcare industry, with the event also offering an exhibition alongside the conference. Leading pharmaceutical companies, charitable organisations and innovative providers were able to discuss the latest cutting-edge medications and showcase their products to the attendees.
