On 10th May 2016, Nursing in Practice visited Durham to provide local primary care and community nurses with the opportunity to learn new skills in a variety of clinical areas. The event was extremely busy, with over 250 nurses interacting with 27 exhibiting companies at the Hardwick Hall Hotel. Now in their 13th year, Nursing in Practice events are free to attend and are designed to support nurses in gaining participatory learning hours, building their knowledge, and helping them stay at the cutting edge of the latest treatments and guidance. The event offered in-depth, cutting-edge seminars, interactive demonstrations and an educational programme that focused on key areas that are a priority for practices. This year’s agenda included a variety of key sessions including learning disabilities, physical activity promotion, immunisations, sexual health, and the word on every nurses’ lips, revalidation. The expert speaker panel, which included representatives from NHS South Tees CCG and St Cuthbert’s Hospice, delivered these engaging and interactive sessions to our nurses, providing them with the latest insight and advice. We have already had fantastic feedback from the event attendees:  “Very good event, enjoyable location and interesting, informative speakers who were very knowledgeable in their area of speciality.” “It is good that you are taking into consideration the diversity of practitioners and including a good range of subjects.” “Speakers made topics very interesting. Level of information just right.” “Very interesting, this conference helps update my current practice.” The Nursing in Practice events are also conscious of bringing together the nursing community with other key stakeholders from the healthcare industry, with the event also offering an exhibition alongside the conference. Leading pharmaceutical companies, charitable organisations and innovative providers were able to discuss the latest cutting-edge medications and showcase their products to the attendees.
