Objectives

Pulse PCN launched the Cardiovascular Disease Roundtable early 2024.

Heart and circulatory diseases cause around a quarter of all deaths in the UK. A British Heart Foundation analysis found more than 96,000 excess deaths involving cardiovascular disease between March 2020 and May 2023 – more than any other disease group. In this roundtable, Pulse PCN editor Victoria Vaughan talks to six PCN leaders about the progress they have made to date in addressing this issue.

Our approach

Our portfolio of market leading media brands has enabled us to cultivate and grow engaged communities of healthcare professionals, with an extensive database of trusted experts and key opinion leaders.

Through this, Pulse PCN ran a roundtable with six PCN leaders, who gave an overview of the PCN cardiovascular disease diagnosis and prevention service was introduced in October 2021, as well as future predictions for the service and what the system needs to keep people well.

Insights gathered formed the basis of the roundtable, titled ‘Cardiovascular disease: implementing the CVD diagnosis and prevention service’, published on the Pulse PCN hub.

The roundtable has been promoted to our community of GPs and PCN clinical directors, via a variety of tactics, including online advertising, emails and social media.

Outcome

The roundtable has generated fantastic engagement and discussion since launch.

Pulse PCN editor Victoria Vaughan says: ‘This roundtable shows how GPs are changing the way services are delivered to actively find hypertensive patients and treat them before the situation potentially escalates to a heart attack or stroke.

‘We’ve also released this roundtable now in support of the British Heart Foundation’s heart health month which encourages everyone to learn CPR in 15 minutes for free.’

Pulse PCN’s quarterly roundtables examine the core tasks PCNs must deliver as part of the PCN Network DES and the challenges and opportunities this work brings. The roundtable series is part of our comprehensive offering for our community of primary care network clinical directors and their teams.
