Objectives

HCM Academy is an online educational programme that targets developing measurable improvement in clinician understanding, skills, and confidence around hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) diagnosis and management.

Although common, HCM is often under-diagnosed and under-managed, significantly worsening the outcomes for patients and profoundly impacting their lives and families.

The HCM Academy programme was developed to raise awareness of HCM and its management with healthcare professionals. The primary objective was to support identification, timely diagnosis and management of patients with HCM in order to improve patient outcomes.

Our approach

The 2023 programme, delivered by our CME division, PCM Scientific, was developed in partnership with a leading expert faculty from the US and Europe, with support from the steering committee and the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association (HCMA).

For primary care clinicians, the focus was on providing education and awareness about HCM topics, such as how to identify HCM, while for secondary care, we highlighted important issues and specialist considerations in its management. We delivered a series of live webinars throughout the year, with corresponding online case studies providing practical insights and content tailored specifically to primary and secondary care audiences.

Each webinar was then available to watch on-demand for free via the HCM Academy website. In addition, free online resources, including modules, case studies, and patient stories, were on offer, providing greater insight into key HCM topics.

Cogora assumed responsibility for all aspects of programme concept/branding, speaker/faculty management and liaison, content development, website development, design of marketing assets, and recruitment/promotion.

Recruitment for the webinars and promotion of the on-demand resources was done via our media brands, Pulse, Nursing in Practice, Hospital Pharmacist Europe, and Hospital Healthcare Europe, targeting family practitioners, primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, advanced practice providers, GPs, and community cardiology teams across Europe, the US, and Canada.

Marketing included a combination of targeted emails, social media, online advertising, advertising through our partnership with the HCMA, and marketing outreach through regional educators’ marketing centres. Our marketing team worked closely with PCM Scientific and our Studio team to develop targeted marketing assets designed to engage the target audiences.
