Objectives

Create an educational conference for healthcare professionals in the treatment of opioid dependence to address worrying perceptions and practice defects.

Our approach

We created an annual, continuing medical education (CME) accredited, three-day event in addictions therapy, Improving Outcomes in the Treatment of Opioid Depedence (IOTOD), that delivers impactful learning experiences. Leading global experts shape the content, with a particular focus on applying the latest scientific evidence to clinical practice, with the ultimate aim of improving patient outcomes.

Outcome

  • 87% of delegates said they would change clinical practice afterwards
  • 2x the number of doctors screened patients’ liver function after a year
  • 50% fewer delegates harboured worrying treatment misconceptions
  • 10x increase in doctors following the correct protocol for transferring patients between medications

This conference has become a key annual conference in the addictions sphere since it started in 2001. 4,431 delegates in total have attended, and we have consistently delivered year-on-year improvements in physician behaviours and attitudes and, ultimately, health outcomes for patients with opioid dependence.
