The Pharmacist awarded for supporting independent pharmacies for second year running

Press Release

The Pharmacist has scooped an award for its work on speaking out on behalf of independent pharmacies for the second year in a row.

The Pharmacist landed the prize for Best Support for Independent Pharmacists at the Avicenna Media Awards at a ceremony at City Hall in central London on Friday (31 January).

The judges were impressed by the brand’s championing of independents and investigation of issues affecting the day-to-day lives of contractors, including how pharmacists really feel about unannounced inspections.

The 11th annual Media Awards – led by the independent support group Avicenna – aimed to showcase the hard work by pharmacy journalists to report on issues that really matter to the sector.

It comes after The Pharmacist won the same award at last year’s Avicenna Media Awards, in part for it’s War on Shortages campaign that looked into the impact of stock shortages.

‘Very proud’

Judges for the Best Support for Independent Pharmacists category were asked to ‘honour the title that best supports our sector’, prove that it ‘takes our issues seriously…and campaign on our behalf’.

The Pharmacist’s editor-in-chief Beth Kennedy said: ‘Our aim as a publication is to champion independent pharmacy, so we are very proud to have been recognised by the sector through this award for the second year in a row.

‘The team at The Pharmacist looks forward to continuing this important work and finding new ways to fight the sector’s corner wherever we can.’
