The Unite-CPHVA Annual Professional Conference, a unique event designed to address the latest professional and strategic changes affecting day to day practice, saw hundreds of healthcare professionals gather in Manchester on 17-18th November. Hundreds of Health Visitors, Community Nursery Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, School and District Nurses, and colleagues from practice and academia were present at the Manchester Central Convention Complex to hear from over 100 professional experts and meet with over 60 exhibitors including healthcare brands and charities. With a variety of speakers and session formats, the conference programme included incisive and inspirational talks on current and sensitive topics such as the future direction of primary healthcare in the UK, mental health, safeguarding, the use of technology in practice and much more. Attendees were able to tailor a programme adapted to their needs and interests by being able to move from plenary lectures, to poster presentations, concurrent masterclasses, exhibition seminars and inspire sessions. The quality and variety of the conference programme was greatly appreciated and enjoyed, as our delegates have shared with us: “Having never attended a CPHVA event before I found the whole event really useful - to understand my colleagues and the messages they are conveying to the public about health promotion and disease prevention”- Amy Rogers, Paediatric Registrar “The event highlights for me were networking - particularly poster presentations and sharing best practice /innovative practice”- Lisa Aspinall, Health Visitor “The event highlight for me was hearing a diversity of speakers that I wouldn't usually have come across”- Amanda Woodhams, Community Nursery Nurse Passionate about the speakers and the friendly atmosphere, delegates have also shared their enthusiasm on social media and were able to directly exchange with speakers and exhibitors. We saw lots of attendees send their first tweet during the event and share conference selfies after attending a session on how to maximise the potential of social media. A record number of over 1, 200 tweets using the official hashtag were recorded and delegates are continuing the conversation after the event: “Fantastic time at this year’s conference. So inspired I’ve booked my hotel for next year already! #CPHVA15” - @geminigenes “Had fab time at #CPHVA15 getting to see & have proper chats with Twitter friends and make some new ones too!” - @loftyjen “Homeward bound after 3 days being challenged, inspired, outraged, moved to tears, motivated, entertained... And exhausted! #cphva15 #bfconf”- @DrSMcMullen The friendly and convivial atmosphere between peers continued into the evening of Day 1. A dinner and ceilidh dance were organised to help delegates relax and catch up after a full day of learning and meeting new friends!
