To act as the scientific and editorial lead on key accounts, and to support the more senior staff leading their team.

Responsible for delivery of accurate editorial content and inputs into the scientific strategic direction across key accounts. Contributes in pitches and proposal presentations.

Role Responsibilities

Overall Responsibilities

  • To provide a standard scientific and writing excellence for teams, providing internal mentorship to junior team members
  • To lead scientific discussions with clients, external experts in informal as well as formal settings
  • To contribute to the scientific strategy and tactical planning of accounts internally and with clients including organic growth
  • To write scientific content for a range of medical education activities that meet the objectives, educational needs of the program, maintaining high quality standards and timelines
  • To work independently within teams to deliver high quality content in alignment with Agency processes and standards
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and KOLs, considers feedback and acts as a point of contact for day-to-day inquiries
  • Travel to meetings and conferences and act as an on-site resource providing writing services
  • Contribute to strategy discussions with clients, KOLs, and help develop ideas
  • Efficiently manage workload across several accounts with attention paid to appropriately prioritising workloads, communicating with different teams to manage timelines.
  • To provide leadership and guidance to junior personnel, and provide an example of best practice in interactions with clients, opinion leaders and audiences.

Daily duties/responsibilities

Editorial

  • Development of written materials in line with objectives, industry-specific compliance guidelines, timelines, target audience and key messages
  • Ensure the scientific integrity and editorial quality of content developed across multiple accounts
  • Types of content to include slide presentations, meeting reports, newsletters, educational materials, websites, infographics, marketing materials, manuscripts, abstracts, posters
  • Ensures editorial content is fully and appropriately referenced, accurate and data-checked/QCed and aligned with strategic intent of client/KOLs
  • Works with senior leadership team to ensure workflow within department is optimised
  • Attends conferences/symposia/client meetings to support content development, execution and post-meeting evaluations/report development
  • Liaises with authors, expert faculty advisors with independence and professionalism both on conference calls, and at live events
  • Fully understands the processes for compliant liaison and working practices with external experts/authors when working on client projects
  • Ensures that confidentiality and compliance with internal firewalls are maintained at all times
  • Ensures line manager and accounts team, where appropriate, are continually updated on project progress

Strategy

  • Good understanding of client products, disease areas, competitive landscape and key clinical data
  • Understands medical communications strategy and can contribute to strategic and tactical planning based on scientific and commercial understanding of the marketplace

Internal Management

  • Rigorous upholding of editorial standards and processes
  • Creates direction and leadership for communication best practices within editorial team
  • Provides guidance and line-management leadership to junior editorial team members, and provides best practice for interactions with clients, KOLs and delegates
  • Contributes to internal initiatives / taskforces as required, attends training to expand knowledge and skills
  • Develops and maintain productive working relationships with colleagues at all levels within PCM Scientific, proactively encourages and implements improved efficiencies
  • Good time-keeping and punctual time-sheet submission

Business Development

  • Identifies and develops business opportunities within existing accounts (organic growth)
  • Works in collaboration with the business development team and contributes to new business proposals
  • Develops and presents pitch presentations and proposals to clients

Key Skills

  • Educated to at least degree level in medicine, pharmacy, or life sciences; higher qualification (eg MSc, PhD) preferred
  • Extensive track record (approx. 2-4 years) of previous medical writing experience gained within a medical communications agency or scientific publishing environment
  • Ability to produce “de novo” high quality and accurate scientific copy in a range of writing styles
  • Understanding of the science and data behind client marketing messages
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively to tight deadlines
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Pro-active and self-motivated
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to motivate and manage junior team members
  • Able to build internal relationships and network effectively with different client teams
  • Good research skills
  • Willingness/ability to learn and apply new skills and new scientific/therapy area/regulatory information
  • Excellent written English, attention to detail and oral communication skills (including presentation skills) – comfortable dealing with KOLs / clients / senior company staff
  • Completed ABPI training
  • Extensive knowledge of grammar rules/house style; use of proof marks; ZINC (Veeva or equivalent) skills; creation of reference packs
  • Good knowledge of strategic medical communications—understanding pharmaceutical industry drivers
  • Fully understands and demonstrates adherence to international, national and industry specific compliance guidelines (IFPMA, ICJME, GPP, ABPI, other specific SOPs)
