The latest issue of Healthcare Leader included an interview with Professor of General Practice at Manchester University Aneez Esmail.

Professor Esmail, winner of the Lifetime Achievement award 2017 at our annual General Practice Awards, spoke to Healthcare Leader’s Reporter Valeria Fiore about the importance of immigration in the NHS, racial bias in the health system and why he turned down an OBE in 2002.

With the Department of Health’s additional social care remit reflected in a recent departmental name change (now known as the Department of Heath and Social Care), the issue also included an analysis on what the this new shift means for the NHS. Is this a cynical ploy of a Government merely trying to tighten its grip on health, or is it a prudent decision lead by attempts to respond to growing social pressures? Healthcare Leader’s Reporter Léa Legraien investigated the issue.

We also have inspirational stories from team up and down the country who are tackling health inequalities in their local area from encouraging teens to open up about mental health to clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) reducing avoidable A&E admissions and making savings through integrated care.
