Pulse magazine number one according to NMRS survey

8 April, 2014 02:29 AM

Pulse continues to be the most read general practitioner magazine, according to independent research published this week.

On average half of all GPs in Great Britain and Northern Ireland read each issue Pulse over the past 12 months, the National Medical Readership Survey (NMRS) has found.

BMJ (British Medical Journal) and GP scored 43% and 36% readership respectively.

Pulse also has the most widely read digital edition, which is most commonly read on tablet computers. Each issue is read by 14% of GPs on average compared to BMJ’s 6% and GP’s 9%.

Overall, print remains the most popular publishing channel amongst GPs, with 87% rating medical journals or publications as ‘very useful’ or ‘quite useful’. 75% of GPs rated medical websites as ‘very useful’ or ‘quite useful’.

The NMRS is commissioned each year by JICMARS (Joint Industry Committee of Medical Advertisers for Readership Surveys), a group of healthcare publishers and media buyers representatives.

The 2014 interim report, published this week, is based on 12 months of fieldwork using a sample size of 1,208. The data was weighted to the estimated universe of all GPs based on counts provided by Binleys, an independent healthcare data provider.

Publications included in the survey (based on the latest period) were: BMA News, BMJ, GP Magazine, Prescriber, British Journal of General Practice, GM, Guidelines in Practice, Pulse, The Practitioner, Guidelines and MIMS

Correction: A previous version of this press release incorrectly stated: 'Pulse magazine is the most read GP publication in the UK'. While Pulse is indeed the most read GP magazine in the UK, reference publications MIMS and Guidelines are both read by 63% of GPs.
