Pulse LIVE London 2016

30 March, 2016 09:27 AM

Pulse LIVE London took place on 22nd – 23rd March at Olympia London for the first of many events in the Pulse calendar. The conference provided delegates with a fantastic opportunity to access the latest insight, innovation and advice from some of the UK’s leading experts in primary care.

We welcomed over 700 attendees from London, the South East and across the rest of the UK. Attendees were able to create their own, personalised agenda choosing talks and panels from across the Your Practice, Your Patients and Your Skills streams, which provided a great range of sessions, debates and topics.

As Nigel Praities, Editor of Pulse magazine said in his welcome, “it has been a hard 12 months for many in the profession”, and with that in mind, the event looked to specifically provide vital information and skills training to help GPs ensure they are giving the best care they can to their patients.

Some of the highlights from this year included:

· Day 1 sessions looking at GP workload including a debate on the use of non-doctor clinical staff and a session from Dr Robert Varnam, Head of General Practice development at NHS England on strategies for addressing avoidable workload.

· Day 2 seminars focussed on the role of GPs in 2016 with an opening debate on whether impractical clinical guidance could put patients and doctors at risk, workshops on the new Diabetes Prevention Programme, a session from Dr Chaand Nagpaul on the new GP Contract and the chance to put questions to PHE advisor, Dr Charles Alessi on the growing role of public health in general practice.

· Career development workshops for newly qualified and experienced GPs alike assessing the pros and cons of portfolio careers, how to become a locum and advice on emigrating abroad.

· Key clinical workshops including interpreting abnormal LFTs, how to deal with challenging blood test results and paediatric dermatology were hugely popular.

The Pulse LIVE events team are conscious of bringing together the healthcare community with other key stakeholders from the industry, with the event offering an exhibition alongside the conference.

Leading pharmaceutical companies, charitable organisations and innovative providers were able to discuss the latest cutting-edge medications and showcase their latest products and services to attendees.
